The annual and prestigious Best Fish and Chip Shop Awards for 2017 include a much-loved establishment in Manchester
The Hip Hop Chip Shop, in Salford, Manchester has been awarded Best Mobile Fish and Chip Operator 2017. These awards are recognised as one of the most prominent and respected seafood industry events in the UK. “We were appraised by industry experts across a variety of judging criteria, including menu development and innovation, sustainable sourcing policies, customer service and staff training processes, marketing and promotional flair, and how we attract new customers to fish and chips. We were also subjected to further judging in the form of mystery shopping assessments – this is still a mystery to us,” explains owner Jonathan Oswald. Oswald, along with co-owners Holly Robson and Luke Stocks received the award at a glitzy ceremony in London earlier this year.
The Hip Hop Chip Shop operates out of a sparkling silver van fashioned to look like a boombox from the 1980s. The original façade of the mobile kitchen reflects the style of food that is served. Fish and Chips is our nation's favourite dish, but the quintessentially British meal is all too often trapped within the boundaries of tradition. At Hip Hop, the traditional menu has been revitalised with culinary inspirations from around the globe. Among menu items you will find: Shell L Cool J Burger, Louisiana spiced cracbcake, battered smoky bacon, spicy ‘slaw, brioche bun and chips; Feastie Boys battered fish biters, chips, minty mushy peas and tartare sauce, and for vegetarians there is Halloumi Myself and I, which consists of battered halloumi fingers, chips, minty mushy peas.
